Finland intends to close its border crossings with Russia 'in the interests of national security,' according to Helsingin Sanomat, citing sources.

Earlier, Finnish President Niinistö and his counterpart from Germany, Steinmeier, accused Russia of intending to assist refugees in crossing borders to destabilize Western countries.

'We know that Russian border authorities near the border are helping those arriving,' stated Niinistö. He added that Finland has recently witnessed an increase in the number of migrants at the Russian border.

Steinmeier noted an increase in cases of migrants entering Germany via Poland, where they, in turn, arrive from Belarus and Russia. 'I suspect that this is happening not entirely unintentionally,' said the President of Germany.
