Over the course of two years, the number of poor Ukrainians has doubled, with one in four economizing on food, according to a survey by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

According to the regulator's survey, while 12.2% of Ukrainians economized on food in 2021, the number rose to 19.9% in 2022 and reached 26.2% in 2023, which is over a quarter of the population.
The percentage of those who have enough for food but need to economize or borrow for clothing and footwear initially increased, then decreased, but remained unchanged over the course of two years.
Meanwhile, the proportion of wealthy individuals, those who can afford any purchases, grew significantly from 0.5% to 1.7%."
